Johannes Gerber

Johannes Gerber worked in the patent department of Fresenius Medical Care & Co KGaA as a patent officer from 2005 to 2016. There, he was in charge of patent prosecution for several affiliated companies in the field of medical technology. The main focus of his work was on providing support and assistance to the development departments in patent law matters, as well as representing the respective group-affiliated employer with regard to the law on employee inventions. 

During this time, Mr. Gerber was additionally responsible for the patent portfolio management of the respective specialist areas, such as membrane development, film development, solution development and "Mechanical Engineering" of dialysis and transfusion machines of the Fresenius Group. In this area of responsibility, his main tasks included "Patent Prosecution" on an international level and the filing of oppositions against patent rights of third parties.

Mr. Gerber is a professional representative before the European Patent Office and assists our clients in patent examination and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office.

In addition, Mr. Gerber also advises our clients in patent examination proceedings before the German Patent Office and other foreign patent offices.

Mr. Gerber graduated from the Johannes Gutenberg University in 2001 with a degree in chemistry. During his studies, he specialized in the field of macromolecular chemistry and initially dealt with the synthesis of optically active polymers in his diploma thesis.

From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Gerber did research in the field of polymer analysis at the former German Plastics Institute in Darmstadt (now part of the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability). During this activity, he analyzed systems of topologically heterogeneous polymers using methods of multidimensional chromatography.
