Dr. Ricker is one of the founding partners of the law firm Wallinger Ricker Schlotter Tostmann. He is part of the firm's intellectual property practice group in the area of chemistry/pharmaceuticals, which now consists of five partners.
Prior to co-founding WR, Dr. Ricker was a partner at Jones Day and served, inter alia, as European IP Coordinator. He holds a doctorate in chemistry and was admitted to practice as a German Patent Attorney in 1994 and as a European Patent Attorney in 1995.
His legal practice has always covered the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. He is active in advising domestic and foreign clients in all areas of patent law. In recent years, Dr. Ricker's practice has focused on representing clients in opposition and nullity proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Federal Patent Court, as well as in infringement proceedings - often together with the attorneys of Wallinger Ricker Schlotter Tostmann. Dr. Rickers is admitted as representative at the UPC (European Patent Litigator (UPC)) since June 2024.
Among others, he recently represented Merz Pharma GmbH in various opposition and appeal proceedings against Allergan in the field of dermal fillers and muscle relaxants /BOTOX®, as well as Eastman Chemicals in the field of "green" polycarbocylic acids for the production of polyesters against Synvina/Avantium. Major current representatives include Archroma IP GmbH (Clariant's former paper and textile company), Autoneum, Bridgestone/Firestone, Eastman Chemicals, Fresenius Medical Care AG, International Paper, Merck AG Darmstadt, Merit Medical Systems, Merz Pharma GmbH, Nippon Shokubai, Verbio AG, and ZTE Corporation.
Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz. In 1990 and 1991, Dr. Ricker was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California at Santa Barbara (USA).
